Many Motorists Believe that Their Driving is not at test Standard?

14th July 2017 by Mark Lanario

A recent article we saw found that around 57 per cent of British motorists believed that they are not as competent at Driving as they should be and were better when they first passed their Driving Tests.

Well, this statement of course reinforces the old adage that ” perception is reality to the perceiver”

In fact most of these people are better drivers than when they first passed their driving tests; many of us had a prang about 10 minutes after passing, however this situation soon stopped. If not it would be carnage out there!!

When a new Driver hits the road ( forgive the pun), after passing a Driving Test, they are not fully autonomous with the co-ordination of the controls, as this takes time. As such there is less available brain processing power available to deal with the other road users, road procedure and weather conditions.

Experienced drivers become fully autonomous in terms of co-ordination with the car controls and therefore have more brain processing power available for road work.

The other statement is that 4 in ten drivers believe that their skills are not good enough to pass a Driving Test. Whilst this is probably true, it not down to skill, more to do with application of those skills in terms of hitting the competences on the DL 25, Driving Test score sheet.

Anyway, enjoy the article
